Delivering Jesus Christ 2 Social Media w/ An Edge.

As I was perusing my junk mail this morning I came across one of my favorite publications - The Kmart sales flyer. Not much to my surprise, there is a section for whom they've termed, 'schoolebrities.' Children that are the celebrities of their school and peer group, (the popular). I had to stop and wonder. Do I want my child to be a schoolebrity this year? Do you want your child to be?
At first thought, I have to admit, it seems ridiculous and shallow. I mean, this is exactly why they invented uniforms. But, I didn't wear a uniform in school. In fact, I always wanted to be trendy. Did I want to be a schoolebrity? ...yeah. I remember being at one of many after school functions and having two very pretty girls on each arm. The looks on faces; amazed at my schoolebrity. I loved it.
But, I digress. There were a few 'most-popular' at my school that would now, I guess, be called schoolebrities. One thing I remember about the most-popular is that they didn't seem to have the highest grades or greatest attendance. Not a surprise. How can you really keep your schoolebrity status if your fans see you in person everyday? Some of the schoolebrities didn't have all kinds of trendy clothes and gadgets. They were just cool. They seemed to have what they call the "it factor."
In at least some small way, of course; we are all a bit shallow. We wouldn't be human if we were perfect. I do want my child to keep up with the latest trends to some degree. If you have a 'tween' daughter, get ready to buy the Miley Cyrus line. I will buy Nike's and allow my son to wear pants that are way too big, but I will not sacrafice quality time and tranquility to do so. Schoolebrity status? That's up to him, but I'm not payin' for it.

Psalms 23
1 A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk through the dark valley of death,* I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.1
5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.
Luke 2
1 At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire.
2 (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
3 All returned to their own towns to register for this census.
4 And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David's ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee.
5 He took with him Mary, his fianc‚e, who was obviously pregnant by this time.
6 And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born.
7 She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn.
8 That night some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep.
9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terribly frightened,
10 but the angel reassured them. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news of great joy for everyone!
11 The Savior--yes, the Messiah, the Lord--has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the city of David!
12 And this is how you will recognize him: You will find a baby lying in a manger, wrapped snugly in strips of cloth®MDNM¯!"
13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others--the armies of heaven--praising God:
14 "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to all whom God favors.*"1
15 When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, "Come on, let's go to Bethlehem! Let's see this wonderful thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16 They ran to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger.
17 Then the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child.
18 All who heard the shepherds' story were astonished,
19 but Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and thought about them often.
20 The shepherds went back to their fields and flocks, glorifying and praising God for what the angels had told them, and because they had seen the child, just as the angel had said.
21 Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived.
22 Then it was time for the purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
23 The law of the Lord says, "If a woman's first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord."*2
24 So they offered a sacrifice according to what was required in the law of the Lord--"either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons."*3
25 Now there was a man named Simeon who lived in Jerusalem. He was a righteous man and very devout. He was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he eagerly expected the Messiah to come and rescue Israel.
26 The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord's Messiah.
27 That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required,
28 Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,
29 "Lord, now I can die in peace! As you promised me,
30 I have seen the Savior
31 you have given to all people.
32 He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!"
33 Joseph and Mary were amazed at what was being said about Jesus.
34 Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, "This child will be rejected by many in Israel, and it will be their undoing. But he will be the greatest joy to many others.
35 Thus, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul."
36 Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was very old. She was a widow, for her husband had died when they had been married only seven years.
Alice Cooper, of School's Out for Summer and I'm 18, fame, was told that his show can't go on in Finland. Cooper and his band were booked to perform at Tampere Areena Oy, an arena in Tampere, Finland Dec. 11. However, the owners of the arena cancelled the event when the supposedly dark nature of Cooper's Theatre of Death show came to light.
Harri Wiherkoski, managing director of the arena said that artists who express suspicious values from Christianity's point of view cannot be allowed to perform at the venue. He also told reporters that his venue doesn't arrange concerts where Satanism or non-god-worshipping occurs.
Concert promoter Kalle Keskinen, said, "We never imagined that a rock veteran who has performed in Finland in four separate decades without any problems and who has spoken in public of his own religious convictions would not be allowed to perform at Tampere Areena in 2009."
Cooper, who is a practicing Christian, told Cross Rhythms magazine last year that he reconciles his stage persona with his personal faith without problem. As a Christian, I don't declare myself as a Christian rock star. I'm a rock performer who's a Christian. Alice Cooper is the guy who wants to entertain the audience, it happens that he's a Christian. Alice (the character I play on stage) began life as a villain and he remains one. "There's a villain and a hero in every Shakespeare play", he said.
